Raw Brisbane is unlike any other event I’ve been to in Brisbane before. It’s not a lame art showcase, it doesn’t involve pretentious people and it certainly isn’t boring!
On Friday, 19 July I attended my second Raw event and I can easily say the whole time I was there it didn’t feel like a chore taking photos.
I started off the night by viewing some of the artists on show in the upstairs section at the Arena.
(Above) Some of my favourite pieces from the ‘Portraits of People in my Head’ collection by Raw artist Bonnie Hislop.
(Above) The ‘7 Tribes’ collection from artist Awen. Awen said the pieces represent 14 incredible humans that have most inspired her over the past 6 – 12 months.
I also really loved chatting with Josh (below) about his art work under the name of Fedz. Josh works using oils and acrylic and has a back ground in street art and graffiti.
After wrapping up my round tour of all the artists I headed backstage to take some behind the scene shots in preparation for the fashion show.

Lastly, designer Flynn showcased her collection. I absolutely loved photographing this model.
Before I wrap this post up, I must make a special mention about talented musician Andrew Markwell who played on the night and gave me his CD. Nice songs.
The great news is Raw Brisbane will be back on Friday, 27 September with the Translations instalment.
