Raw Brisbane presents Translations

Raw Brisbane definitely turned up the talent this month with some of Brisbane’s most finest artists on showcase at the Arena in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

From the second I walked in I was taken back by the amazing talent staring me right in the face, just like the below illustration from Jasmine Hambling called “Freedom”.

Jasmine said, “freedom is inspired by stories of people I know fighting for their dreams and designing their own path. There are so many opportunities in this world which give you every reason not to be living a life of mediocrity.”

Above, ‘Steph’ – Graphite on Cartridge Paper by artist Elle Wills. This was just one of my favourite pieces, however you must check out Elle’s full site to see how truly talented she is when it comes to realism portraits.

Below, I loved the presentation of Bw Altimages collection showcasing fetish and erotic photos.

Above, art by Molly Sage.

Molly said she mainly draws portraits depicting curious people and original characters and uses mixed media including acrylic paint, watercolour, pastels and pen.

Above, Amanda Whitelaw from Hungry Designs, featuring hand drawn and digitally designed pieces including wearable art, postcards, brooches and art prints. I have an obsession with Ariel, so that piece in the background got my attention!

Karen White from Kewzoo with one of her favourite pieces (above). If you check out all of Karen’s work you will see her real love for animals.

Emily Timms (above) roams the showcase flaunting the cute as make up by Maz!

Artist Lilly Morrison (above) in front of her display.

Lily said, “my work at RAW was essentially a declaration of love for the shows and stories that have inspired me, from my Sailor Disney girls to the Art Nouveau Adventure Time ladies. Each picture was my little way of saying “thank you” to the original artists, designers, writers of these incredible productions that have impacted my life and my art so heavily.”

The Raw nights always end in a bang when the local designers fashion hits the catwalk.

Model Alisha Harding wears Wrap Top and Tie up Hem Harem Pant from Infidel. the label. Alisha’s amazing hair was done by Trinkah and make up by Elise Kate.

Model Siena Patch-Taylor wears ‘silk hankerchief top’ and ‘Harem trouser’ pants.

Below La’or designer Julie Schrag makes final adjustments before the show.

Model wears dress with yoke beaded neck in boiled silk organza (above).

Model wears blue lace, one shoulder evening dress with short front and train. Dress includes 2 ply silk lining.

Model Renata Webster wears Anna Hulum’s vibrant silk dress made from pure silk.

Designer Undral Altan (centre) with models backstage in her label Undral

Undral said her showcase on the night was a mix of two mini collections – white cocktail wear and floral summer daywear.

“I was initally inspired by Snow White Princess/Alice in Wonderland but then got sidetracked to pretty skulls and day of the dead so i made it into two collections. Both offer classic and chic style with fun and playful prints,” she said.

Make up for Undral’s models was from Maz (Maria Walter) and hairstyle by Shannon Strike at Globe Creative.

  1. Lovely post 🙂
For the bottom photo from Undral’s show the makeup was by Maz (Marie Walter) and hairstyling by Shannon Strike 🙂

    1. Thank you. Something must have happened to the text at the end because I actually know Shannon personally and know she does fantastic hair haha. I was also backstage and knew Maz did the make up too haha. Thank you for pointing this out 🙂
Were you in attendance on the night?
