Everybody say Raw, raw, raw!
The Arena in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley was screaming with talent as finalists from across Australia competed in the 2nd Annual RAWards Indie Arts Australia Awards.
Like every Raw event this one showcased the best in music, photography, visual arts, fashion and accessories designers, hair stylists, make up artists and filmmakers and performing artists. I was there to capture as much as I could so I could share it with you!
Make up by Brisbane’s Carly Stone. Carly is a freelance make up artist specialising in wedding, makeover, formals, photographic and fashion makeup.
Models (L to R: Megan, Emilie, Steph and Tegan) backstage wearing Brisbane based label LIPOA Threads – aka “Little Piece Of Africa”. Hair by Lisa Sleep – Hair Stylist.
Model Steph Angelique in the new LIPOA Threads print, available in store at House of Nate, Westfield Carindale.
I could personally see myself wearing this label – Amber Alexis The Label, in particular the chequered suit to the far right.
Above and below, models in custom made and ready to wear burlesque costuming by Katrina Gaskin, also known as Katrina Leigh.
Elizabeth Sotiria H in Katrina Gaskin costuming and hair by Nicole Bosenburg, Hairstylist of the Year winner from Perth.
Above and below, models wear Brisbane based gorgeous dresses from Hoskin Designs.
Sarah Jane Bradley in front of her gypsy inspired installation of art prints. One of Sarah’s favourite is ‘Furious Fox’ (pictured to her right) which sold on the night. Well done!
The frames you can see on the prints are unique and hand-built from fallen branches and as Sarah says ‘lots of love’.
Fashion, fine art and portrait photography captured perfectly in this piece by Phoebe Hofsteede Photography. I was with Phoebe at the time she sold this piece to a very happy customer!
I loved the set up and feel of this display titled, “The Birds and The Seams” made using graphite and coloured pencil on paper by artist Brisbane artist Stacey Maree. Stacey’s works focus on the beauty of nature and growth over time.
Above, Amanda and Colin from Hungry Designs standing in front of their Disney digital prints.
Amanda said her pieces can take anywhere between 8 hours to 2 days to make.
Spotted! Juan Miguel Aquilizan is a sculpture artist and I had an awesome chat with him about his works overseas, his style and travelling world fashion weeks.
Juan is wearing Romance Was Born pants, Y.R.U platforms and an Hater Snapback hat.
There is no way you could ever fault floral designer Julia Rose from Wedding Flowers by Julia Rose.
Julia’s displays (above and below) are always bursting with colour, fresh formal scents and have a crowd of people around. I did what everyone else was doing and had my photo taken in her display.
And finally, a short video showcasing the outfit that helped Alexandra Malpass Fashion from Sydney win RAW Fashion Designer of the Year Australia! Congratulations!
