I didn’t know much about designer Lie Sang Bong before going to South Korea but only a day into my Seoul Fashion Week trip I quickly learnt he was considered a god in Korean fashion.
In fact, Seoul Fashion Week describes him as ‘one of the most innovative fashion designers in the world!’ Lie Sang Bong began his womenswear brand in 1985 and premiered his debut line at Seoul Fashion Week in 1993!
As I stood outside the IFC Mall after one of the first few Seoul Fashion Week shows, I saw local street photographers eagerly chasing a man with a hat, round glasses and perfectly shaped facial hair. He wore a dark long heavy jacket resembling a cape of a king! This was my first sight of Lie Sang Bong!
I soon quickly followed the chase to get a more close up glimpse of the man himself.
On Monday at Seoul Fashion Week, Lie Sang Bon’s collection opened at Yeoido Park. This particular morning I needed to change hostels for the night and so found myself tight for time making his show. There was no way though I was missing it and after managing my way through the city of Seoul I arrived on time and ready to shoot!
Unlike any other ordinary runway, this one was transformed into a forest like feast. The smell of the fresh trees immediately hit your senses as the buzz among the crowd of excited whispers waited for models to appear from behind the set.
Next minute ‘Florence to Rome’ by Andy Cato started playing and wella…models began walking in the Spring Summer 2014 collection to the concept of ‘flowers blooming and bursting.’ Lie Sang Bong wanted to express this through the burst of radiance captured through flowers.
The inspiration for this collection was Mugunghwa – Rose of Sharon (Korea’s national flower) and fabrics used include silk, wool and linen. Please enjoy these photos …
Just to extend onto my earlier rave about Lie Sang Bong, I can’t stop and need to tell you more!
Lie Sang Bong presents his collections at Paris and New York as well as of course at Seoul Fashion Week. The brand is available in over 60 boutiques and department stores across 15 countries. Some of the biggest celebrities to wear his clothes, include Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland.
I was honoured to meet Lie Sang Bong at the Seoul Fashion Week after party and personally congratulate him on the collection. I also had my photo taken with him and will share this in a later post.
Ladies and gentleman please give the man a bow for his expertise and contribution to the fashion industry!
