22nd Annual Queensland Sports Awards

On Thursday night I attended the 22nd Annual Queensland Sports Awards at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in South Brisbane.

I was invited back to volunteer at the event for the fifth year running after meeting the Chief Executive Officer Peter Cummiskey at a QUT networking event back in 2012.

As usual the evening had a lot of renowned sporting greats and future sport stars as well showcased those people who work tirelessly behind the scenes including coaches, volunteers and even families to help make sport in Queensland possible.

My role for the evening was to assist with on stage duties including handing awards to sponsors and ensuring the comfort of the guests welcomed up to present and receive awards. I had a fantastic time doing this position on stage for the second year running. I had the privilege of assisting with the below awards:

  • Queensland Service to Sports
  • Queensland Sport Administrator of the Year
  • Queensland Sport Coach of the Year – Michael Bohl (Swimming)
  • Queensland Sport Event of the Year – ANZ Championship Netball Grand Final
  • Queensland Sport Officiator of the Year
  • Queensland Sport Volunteer of the Year
  • Queensland Junior Sport Team of the Year – Women’s 4 X100 Freestyle Relay Olympic Team (Swimming)
  • Queensland Academy of Sport Peter Lacey Award for Sporting Excellence
  • Queensland Junior Sport Star of the Year
  • Queensland Athlete with a Disability
  • Queensland Sport Star of the Year – Cate Campbell (Swimming)
  • 2016 Queensland sport Hall of fame Inductees – Simon Black (AFL), John McDonald (Rugby League), Stephanie Rice (Swimming) and Emma Snowsill (Triathlon).

Congratulations to all the recipients and a big hello to all the new people and friends I made by volunteering at this event.
